Seventh Air Force commander

8/2/2012 - OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea  -- Ulchi Freedom Guardian 2012 (UFG 12) is almost upon us, and we will soon have another opportunity to demonstrate US commitment to our Republic of Korea (ROK) allies and stability in North East Asia. We all have an important role to ensure a successful exercise, and in supporting the ROK - U.S. Alliance that has deterred aggression on the Korean Peninsula for 59 years.

As the Department of Defense shifts its focus toward the Asia-Pacific region, UFG exercises will be more important than ever. UFG 12 presents an excellent opportunity to showcase our commitment to the region and improve ROK/U.S. combat readiness and joint/combined interoperability.

With Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen throughout Korea, at Pacific Command, and operating from locations across the U.S., UFG 12 is one of the largest Joint Staff directed theater exercises in the world. UFG 12 provides the combined team an opportunity to develop improved organizational structures and enhance our command and control relationships.

I am committed to achieving our training objectives for UFG 12 in a safe manner. Leaders at all levels must manage operational risk by identifying hazards, taking appropriate safety measures, and reducing overall risk to our personnel and equipment.

We will fly, fight, and win with discipline, dedication and teamwork. Together, we will demonstrate our ability to defend the ROK, ensure regional stability, and prove to all that we remain an agile, adaptive force that is capable of overcoming any challenge.

Katchi Kapshida!
