Pride of the Pack
Master Sgt. Nelson Perkins, 8th Civil Engineer Squadron heating, ventilation and air conditioning shop NCO in charge, accepts a Pride of the Pack award from Col. John Dolan, 8th Fighter Wing commander, on behalf of the HVAC shop Aug. 5. According to Senior Master Sgt. Robert Anderson, 8th CES infrastructure superintendent, the shop installed a 330-liters-per-minute pump and reconfigured a chilled water hydraulic system and two 45-ton compressors for the precision measurement equipment laboratory in eight hours, preventing a facility shut-down. The shop rejuvenated a 40-ton chiller at the 8th FW Headquarters back to manufacturer specifications, restoring cooling to the critical command element. The Airmen overhauled a 15-ton chiller at the 8th Operations Support Squadron air traffic control tower, keeping $1.2 million in navigational equipment cool with zero flight delays. They replaced a 14-ton condenser at the 82nd Army Battery Battalion, restoring cooling to 100 personnel. They also repaired a 12-ton air conditioner at the 8th Security Forces Squadron fire arms training center, preventing a $1.5 million simulator from overheating and shutting down. The shop also took ownership of the Collective Protective System base-wide, conducting six of 14 inspections and compiling a comprehensive list of replacement parts and supply stock to provide for Pacific Air Forces fiscal 2010-2011funding, leading the way for 7th Air Force for PACAF-contracted civilians starting 2011.
