7 AF commander visits Kunsan

KUNSAN AIR BASE, South Korea -- The 7th Air Force commander visited Kunsan Air Base Wednesday to take a look at base facilities and fly in an F-16 training mission.

The trip marked the first time Lt. Gen. Stephen Wood, 7th AF commander, visited the base since the 8th Fighter Wing's change of command ceremony in May where Col. CQ Brown became the wing commander and the 46th "Wolf."

During his visit, General Wood said he was impressed by the men and women of the 8th Fighter Wing.

"The Wolf Pack is a one-of-a-kind team, with cohesion and motivation that is world renown," he said.

While at the base, General Wood met with maintenance and operations Airmen, as well as took a tour of the base's new dormitory. He also flew on a training mission with the 35th Fighter Squadron here.

General Wood said he thought it was important for senior leadership to fly with various units just like he did with members of the Wolf Pack here.

"Flying with the Wolf Pack also helps me get a feel for your readiness. This is a place where we fight side-by-side in a combined/joint environment," he said. "Ultimately the daily efforts of every Airman help strengthen the Republic of Korea and U.S. alliance."

At the end of his visit, General Wood reemphasized how impressed and proud he is with members of the Wolf Pack.

"I'm proud of the leadership here from our junior Airmen up to the senior officers," he said. "Each of you continue to prove you have a stake in this mission and it is my pleasure to serve with each of you."

General Wood is a command pilot with more than 3,400 flying hours in the F-4, T-33, AT-38 and F-16 including 49 combat missions during Operation Desert Storm.
