March 16 saw a change in the way physical fitness testing is conducted here.

General Howie Chandler, Pacific Air Forces commander, directed changes in the fitness testing procedures last December. The base Health And Wellness Center, or HAWC will be the centralized location for fitness testing to ensure better testing standardization.

"The main responsibility that the HAWC will have now is to ensure that everyone's fitness test is done to the same standards, and to make sure that everyone is tested exactly the same way in accordance to AFI (Air Force Instruction) 10-248," said William Goins, 8th Fighter wing health and wellness center exercise physiologist.

There will be no changes to the physical aspects of the fitness test. Members are still required to accomplish the physical fitness standards on aerobic fitness, muscular strength and body composition.

"We currently have three staff members and we are augmenting three physical training leaders from each squadron for 90 day time periods to help test and input the scores into the system," explained Mr. Goins.

There are 260 slots for Airmen testing this month alone. On a typical month, the HAWC has 86 allotted slots for members to test.

"The new fitness testing procedures will ensure that we know exactly how fit to fight we are here at the Wolf Pack," said Mr. Goins.
