A new shopping option was opened to 8th Fighter Wing Airmen June 15.

The Kunsan Army and Air Force Exchange Service opened a shoppette where drinks, snacks, movie rentals and other items will be available to Wolf Pack members at earlier and later times than the base exchange.

"This shoppette was built to clear merchandise in the BX to provide more room for fast-moving merchandise like clothing and hardware," said Vickie Smith, Kunsan AAFES manager. They will also add a "Value Zone" in the main store, which is a special area for small, inexpensive items, she said.

Col. Patrick Clements, 8th Mission Support Group commander, spoke at the opening ceremony and thanked AAFES for making Kunsan "a little better."

"Improving the base and our quality of life, from the dorms to this shoppette, is making Kunsan a little bit better," Colonel Clements said. "Across the spectrum, AAFES is here to support us. Many people probably don't know this, but AAFES has donated approximately $350,000 to make Kunsan better. They really are here to help and support us."

After the ceremony, shoppers were welcomed in with free giveaways, discount coupons and entry forms for the chance to win a 32-inch television, digital camera or a $100 AAFES gift card.

Two Army Privates First Class from the A 2-1 Air Defense Artillery 35th Brigade were among the first shoppette shoppers.

"I saw the gold (ribbon-cutting) scissors and was curious," said Pfc. Dennis Elmore. "So I came in to support AAFES, for all they do to support us."

Pfc. Marcus Wofford said he is happy with the additional space in the main store.

"Now it won't be as crowded in the main BX, so there will be more access to what I need," he said. "I also like the extended hours."

The shoppette is located in the food court area of the main exchange building. The hours are 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.

"This is what our customers wanted and were asking for," Ms. Smith said. "I am so happy to be able to provide this for them."
