Reason for nomination: "Master Sgt. Rachael Michel has displayed impressive leadership over that last several months by volunteering to fill the vacant 8th Maintenance Operations Squadron first sergeant position as she continued to work group and wing finance related issues. She is a ranking senior NCO with the Money Wolves working as the 8th Maintenance Group resource advisor and relied upon by both Money Wolf and Phoenix.

While filling the three month first sergeant gap, she's provided sound advice in five disciplinary and four humanitarian concerns within the squadron. Additionally, in an attempt to better serve her Airman, this "Diamond" capable NCO has become a solid member of the shirt council.

Rachel is treasurer for the Top-3 and has enhanced 8th MXG morale by overseeing 10 weekends at the Knight's Center. She sourced more than $100,000 to provide flightline maintainers cold weather gear in support of the Wolf Pack's mission. She fought for and received $198,000 in WRM funds for AMMO assisting the 8th Logistics Readiness Squadron with funds to repair utility vehicles.

She rallied the office around fellow Airmen with failing physical training scores to provide after-hours training. Both individuals passed their retest. She volunteered to lead the shelter management team through all upcoming operational readiness exercises and inspections, setting the bar for readiness preparations in the 8th MOS.

Rachael's efforts to the 8th Fighter Wing's mission, her fellow Airmen and her personal develop make her a perfect choice for this award." -- Maj. Doug Warren, 8th MOS
