Required Antiterrorism plan critical for travel

KUNSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea --  As more and more people make travel plans, the 8th Fighter Wing Antiterrorism Office wants to remind personnel of the extra necessary steps they will need to take before setting sail.

Those making travel plans within the United States Pacific Command area of responsibility must remember to complete a Travel Tracker/Individual Antiterrorism Plan before submitting their leave request.

Per the PACOM OPORD 5050-08 and the DOD Foreign Clearance Guide, U.S. Military, DOD Civilians, and/or Contractors traveling into or within the USPACOM AOR must complete a Travel Tracker/Individual Antiterrorism Plan prior to travel. For U.S. PACOM assigned personnel, all travel worldwide must be entered. Exceptions: Currently, not required for travel to CONUS or to any U.S. Territories or Possessions (see specific applicability).

Specific Applicability:

Military: Required for both Official (TDY/TAD) and Personal (Leave) Travel.

DOD Civilians / Contractors: Required for Official Travel, only, unless otherwise stated in the DOD Foreign Clearance Guide. However, highly encouraged for Personal (Leave) Travel.

This policy is to ensure travelers are aware of, and remain alert to, possible dangers and/or emerging threats to their personal safety while traveling, as well as providing CDR USPACOM with immediate geographic accountability and notification capability of/to its personnel or personnel from other COCOMs who are in their AOR. A Travel Tracker/Individual Antiterrorism Plan (IATP) must be completed at least 15-30 days prior to date of departure.

According to Mr. Buethe, the Travel Tracker also gives commanders "immediate geographic accountability and notification capability of/to its personnel or personnel from other combatant commands who are in their AOR" should the need ever arise.

Before submitting leave requests, travelers need to visit their unit antiterrorism monitors for specific instructions and web links to complete the plan.

They will need specific dates of travel, applicable phone numbers and addresses, as well as required training dates (Force Protection, SERE) and completed ISOPREP.

"We want people to be smart about their travel plans. Enjoy their time, but understand that we are still foreigners and guests in another country," said Mr. Buethe.
