The SonLight Inn held an open house Aug. 31 to highlight what services are provided as a "home away from home."

This unique facility, managed by the Kunsan Chapel, is available daily to the Wolf Pack as a place to gather and socialize in a relaxed environment.

"We want everyone who comes here to feel like they are home," said Komang Goins, SonLight Inn director. "It's a non-alcoholic and relaxing environment for our hard-working Airmen to come after work and in their spare time. With so many underage Airmen here, it's even more important for them to have a place to hang out."

The SonLight Inn is popular for its free dinner every Friday and Sunday, as well as its availability as a meeting spot. Interest groups including photography and gaming use it on a regular basis.

The facility features the Holy Grounds Coffee House, a gaming and TV room, pingpong table, pool table, social areas and free internet access. Some Kunsan Chapel services and Bible studies are also held there.

"The open house was my first time visiting the SonLight Inn," said Staff Sgt. Kristoffer Smith, 8th Fighter Wing knowledge operations management, "and I definitely plan on coming back. I like the atmosphere and getting with my peers.

"I've been to other large bases and neither had anything like the SonLight Inn," he added. "This is an avenue where Airmen can get together and have fun without alcohol."

Especially for young Airmen and those away from families, the SonLight Inn can be a hospitable place to spend their free time.

"We want the entire base to know the SonLight Inn is there for them," said Chaplain (Capt.) Robert Schobert, 8th FW. "Especially at an unaccompanied place like Kunsan, we don't want Airmen to spend their downtime sitting alone in their dorms when a place like this is available to them."

The SonLight Inn is open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to midnight on Fridays, and noon to midnight on Saturdays. For more information, call 782-9318.
