Pride of the Pack accomplishment:
Self was the committee chairman for National Police Week 2013. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Self coordinated a week's worth of activities to honor those lost in the line of duty. The events included a memorial breakfast, ruck march, a bowling and golf tournament, retreat ceremony, defender's challenge, a barbecue with Republic of Korea Security Forces and Office of Special Investigations in attendance and lastly a jail and bail fundraiser to which some of the proceeds were donated to a National Police charity. The week of events were flawlessly executed with Col. Douglas Nikolai, 8th FW vice commander, Chief Master Sgt. Phillip Robinson, 8th FW command chief and Col. Joseph Atkins, 8th Mission Support Group commander attending several of the memorial events. Self also coordinated media coverage from both 8th FW Public Affairs and the Armed Forces Network.
