The 8th Fighter Wing activated the Emergency Operations Center in response to the imminent arrival of Typhoon Soulik today, 22 Aug.

Base officials held their first meeting Monday, 20 August and continue planning in order to ensure the safety and security of all Wolf Pack Airmen, civilians, and resources.

The EOC is the command and control section responsible for emergency preparedness and management. Airmen within the EOC work closely with the Wolf Pack’s ROKAF and tenant partners to communicate with the base populace and coordinate the storm preparation and recovery efforts.

“The safety of our people and the surrounding communities is one of our foremost concerns and we are taking all the preliminary precautions to ensure our personnel stay safe and our resources remain unharmed,” said Colonel John W. Bosone, 8th Fighter Wing commander. “We are also working closely with our Republic of Korea Air Force counterparts at the 38th Fighter Group to secure base infrastructure and aircraft in order to maintain mission capabilities during the typhoon.”

At this time, no aircraft have been evacuated from the base and the 8th Fighter Wing maintainers have sheltered all flight line resources in hardened facilities to prevent damage during the inclement weather.

All personnel are currently performing tasks such as preparing sandbags, protecting building windows, and securing items that may become flying projectiles due to the intense winds.

Following base preparations, non-mission essential personnel will shelter-in-place for the duration of the storm. First responders and the 8th Civil Engineer Squadron Disaster Response Force will remain on stand-by to address any emergencies that arise during the typhoon.

All non-essential facilities such as the base commissary, exchange, gym and dining facility are closed in preparation for the storm. The 8th Force Support Squadron provided Meals Ready to Eat to personnel as a result of the dining facility closing.
