During the month of April, the Department of Defense takes a concerted stand against sexual assault as it observes Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This year's theme for SAAM is Ask, Act, and Intervene. This theme is perfect for us here at Kunsan Air Base. It charges us with the responsibility to help protect our fellow Airmen and actively step in and prevent sexual assault before it happens.

Each of us can make difference for others through our actions, whether it is for our leaders, peers and subordinates.

DoD policies address sexual assault prevention, seeking to establish a
climate of confidence in which: education and training create an environment in which sexual assault and the attitudes that promote it are not tolerated; victims of sexual assault receive the care and support that they need; and, offenders are held accountable for their actions.

Be an educated wingman by learning about how to reduce your risk for sexual assault and how to help keep your fellow Airmen safe.

Did you know that here at Kunsan AB alcohol is involved in more than 75 percent of sexual assaults and they occur most frequently in dorm rooms? You can use this information to help protect yourself and your fellow Airmen. Most importantly make sure that your wingmen are safe and in control.

Your efforts could have a positive long-term effect on one of your fellow service members. Prevention is key. To reach the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator, call 782-7252 on base or "158," then "6" anywhere on the peninsula.
