Kunsan Airmen gathered to celebrate diversity recently at the inaugural Diversity Day event here.

The festivities kicked off with an opening ceremony at the fitness center Nov. 25. After words from Col. J.D. "Wolf" Harris, 8th Fighter Wing commander, the day's events began. There was an ethnic food tasting, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, free movie showings at the base theater and a diversity day dinner at the Loring Club.

"Diversity day is a combination of different people from various back rounds coming together and making sure things happen as a team." Said Staff Sgt. Jennifer Holmes, 8th Fighter Wing equal opportunity office. "That's what diversity day is about, bringing people together and making things happen."

According to Sergeant Holmes the intent of Diversity Day was to give all Airmen here an opportunity to see the many different cultures of the Wolf Pack. Everyone had a chance to see the different displays that were put together by volunteers to show the different cultures in our military and their accomplishments.

"What we are trying to do here is celebrate all the different ethnicities and groups that we have in one day leaving no one out and just celebrating different backgrounds," said Staff Sgt. Emily Schultz, a volunteer from the 8th Fighter Wing. "Our differences are what make us strong."

This was the Wolf Pack's first Diversity day celebration. Based on the events and the turnout, an annual Diversity Day is on the horizon for Kunsan Airmen.

"We've been able to get a picture of what has gone on this year," said Sergeant Holmes. "Next year will be much better and we will be able to bring more people in to make this a team effort. We can positively affect the mission here at Kunsan Air Base."

"It was very exciting," added Sergeant Schultz. "I hope that they continue to have this event at Kunsan year after year. I really enjoyed coming out and meeting people and learning things about other cultures."
