Kunsan focuses on Cyber Security Published March 17, 2009 By Senior Airman Dana Hill 8th Fighter Wing Public Affairs KUNSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- Wolf pack members dedicated March, 13 as a day to focus on cyber security and tie into the Air Force mission to fly and fight in Air, Space and Cyberspace. Recent security events have caused a need for increased vigilance of our networks and educational awareness to our network users. Maj. Gen. Gilmary Hostage, Pacific Air Forces vice commander directed that wings across PACAF conduct a network security forces day to review Information Assurance and key network security information. Wolf Pack leadership jumped on the opportunity and implemented the cyber (network) security focus day. "What we want to do today is focus on what the users should be doing when operating on the network" said Maj. Bryan Eberhardt, 8th Communications Squadron commander. "The weakest link in our network is the individual using the computer." The cyber (network) security focus day consisted of mandatory completion of Information protection training done through the Advance Distributing Learning Services or ADLS. Wolf pack members were also encouraged to complete and familiarize themselves with the Department of Defense anti-phishing training. The day was geared toward user education and awareness of vulnerabilities that can target the network. "Keep in mind that in the cyber world there are a lot of ways to view things after its left your computer," said Staff Sgt. Milton Jump, 8th Communications Squadron network advisor. "Practice keeping the network secure by using proper practices." For additional information on cyber (network) security Wolf Pack members can tune into channel 13 or visit the communications squadron SharePoint page on the intranet.
