Airmen and Soldiers assigned to Kunsan Air Base are testing their ability to survive and operate effectively in order to accomplish the 8th Fighter Wing's wartime mission this week.

An afternoon, base-wide recall March 29, joined the servicemembers in order to test their ability to Defend the Base, Accept Follow-on Forces and Take the Fight North, through simulated contingency scenarios for the Peninsula-wide Operational Readiness Exercise, Beverly Bulldog 09-02.

"This exercise will not only prepare us for an upcoming Operational Readiness Inspection, but also enable us to stay current with AFSC [Air Force Specialty Code] specific duties that enable us to execute the wing's wartime mission," said Col. JD "Wolf" Harris, 8th Fighter Wing commander. "From launching and recovery our aircraft to accepting follow-on forces and defending our installation, we count on every member of the Wolf Pack team to carry out their responsibilities effectively throughout the exercise."

During the week-long exercise base Airmen and Soldiers will focus on rendering Self Aid and Buddy Care to the injured and also demonstrate their ability to complete the mission in simulated chemical environments. Beverly Bulldog 09-02 will challenge Kunsan Airmen and Soldiers to accomplish these tasks while encumbered by different levels of Mission Oriented Protective Posture gear.

"The men and women of the Wolf Pack train everyday on these core skills that enable us to survive and operate in hostile environments and successfully execute our mission," said Colonel Harris. "This week will be about putting all these concepts into action in order to ready the wing for potential threats and contingency operations."

The local exercise is scheduled to run through April 3.
