Orphans from the Samsung Orphanage in Gunsan City visited the 8th Security Forces Squadron K-9 Unit for demonstrations, lunch and a movie and bowling with the Airmen here May 14.

The event gave 8th SFS Airmen an opportunity to give back to the community. The day started with a K-9 demonstration and play time with the police vehicles. The children also had lunch with Airmen and watched a movie at the base theater. Their lunch, which was sponsored by AAFES, consisted of hotdogs, popcorn and a soft drink.

"We've [8th SFS] been sponsoring this orphanage since the 1950's," said Lt. Col. Mark Anarumo, 8th SFS commander. "We do a couple things a year like bring them Christmas gifts where I wear a Santa Claus costume. But a lot of us miss our families back home, so this is a nice way to get exposed to the folks we miss in an abstract way."

"I'm glad they came and hope they come back more often," added Airman 1st Class Jeanie Meyerring, 8th SFS security forces members.

The Samsung Orphanage is sponsored exclusively by the 8th SFS providing security forces Airmen a unique way to give back to the community and further strengthen relations with their Republic of Korea counterparts.
