Airmen from the 8th Maintenance Squadron conventional maintenance crew members, cross load inert munitions from trailer to trailer to prepare frags for Kunsan and theater support package aircraft for the upcoming Operational Readiness Exercise here July 13.

There are 46 permanent party and 13 theater support package personnel assigned to the 8th MXS conventional maintenance flight. These Airmen, build and maintain various general purpose, cluster bomb units and precision guided bombs, inspect and assemble aircraft countermeasures and aircraft gun ammunition.

Ammo is a diverse career field. Ammo Airmen can build bombs for just about any airframe in just about any deployed environment. But when they're at one base, they may focus on just one aircraft.

Here, they provide munitions support for 45 F-16C/D aircraft and become familiar with the local regulations and technical orders. For these Ammo Airmen, supplying the weaponry is only part of the challenge; they also have to make sure the weapons are reliable. For the Airmen, there's no greater feeling than seeing the aircraft return with an empty rack after a mission.
