The Wolf Pack’s innovation team, Wolfwerx, coordinated with Microsoft Federal to teach Airmen at Kunsan Air Base various sets of developmental and organizational tools that can apply to their work centers from July 29 - August 2, 2024.

During the 4-day course, Microsoft Federal personnel were able to hone in on numerous resources within Microsoft’s Power Platforms. The program was divided into three major components; Power Business Intelligence, Power Automate, and Power Apps.

“This particular project’s approach is more proactive support, empowering Airmen across different units by enhancing their technological skills with the most modern tools Microsoft has available for their workspaces,” said Mr. Jonathan Pharel, Microsoft customer success account manager. “Each component within the program incorporates a more updated technological system, saving manpower and time synthesizing data and workflow automation.”

According to Pharel, Power BI helps users create dashboards and interactive reports using low-code tools and pre-built formats. Power Automate can be used to send automatic reminders for tasks and Power Apps are utilized to build and deploy customized apps to optimize for specific tasks, roles, and industries.

The course was open to Airmen of all ranks in all career fields from Kunsan AB and Osan AB. The classes aimed to help Airmen discover and utilize Microsoft’s latest tools that could enhance their workspace processes.

“As a manpower analyst, we brief commanders and chiefs often, so Power BI and Power Automate help us categorize and manage data in processes such as approving and changing documents on Microsoft SharePoint more efficiently,” said Tech. Sgt. Mark Lester, 8th Force Support Squadron manpower analyst. “We’re learning more in-depth on how to take certain data sets and manipulate them to provide the user with a better overview and dashboard on certain documents.”

During the class, Airmen learned the unique capabilities of each technology and were shown how they work together to provide comprehensive solutions.

Pharel emphasized that these technologies enable other processes, such as data analysis and application development, through seamless integration.

“These platforms are more advanced than before, giving Airmen more flexibility and resolutions to accomplish tasks versus using the traditional Microsoft Office Suite,” said Pharel.

With resources similar to these classes, these trainings can assist in improving the overall functionality of Wolf Pack operations.

“Utilizing these technologies, Airmen can improve several lines of effort such as in and out-processing from base,” said U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Kareem Samuel, 8th Fighter Wing Wolfwerx innovation chief. “I think if we all came in with the ideology of always finding improvements, we can optimize our operations across Kunsan.”
