Letter from his commander:
I would like to recommend Staff Sgt. Saulo Corniel from the 8th Communications Squadron, for the Pride of the Pack Award. Sergeant Corniel has made a positive impact throughout the wing and community from the moment of his arrival at Kunsan Air Base in November 2006. He serves as the base Official Mail Manager and is responsible for managing, supervising and sage guarding all facets of the Official Mail Section to include registry, official mail postage and meter maintenance.

Sergeant Corniel's focus since arriving here was preparing for both the Operational Readiness Inspection (ORI) and the Postal Operations Inspection (POI), which were scheduled within two weeks of each other. His efforts greatly enhanced the rating for the entire wing. Sergeant Corniel volunteered his weekends to revamp the entire operational process of the Official Mail Center. His efforts resulted in a 75 percent reduction in backlogged mail. Sergeant Corniel's contributions to the Wolf Pack were recently validated during the 2007 Postal Operations Inspection, when PACAF Postal Inspectors lauded his process by presenting him with the "Outstanding Performer" award.

Sergeant Corniel also implemented a creative duty schedule, capitalizing on traditional "low-traffic" periods to process incoming mail twice a day. This initiative significantly increased efficiency and eliminated a backlog of deliverable mail. Another testament to his innovation is when he introduced a new quality control program, calling for random checks of 3,000 mailboxes. This reduced errant mail and resulted in an impressive 97 percent addressee accuracy rate. Sergeant Corniel also conducted 54 hours of official mail training, arming 20 unit mail clerks with know-how required to give top-notch service to their units. Lastly, he coordinated comprehensive training with the 8th Security Forces Squadron on the 54,000 dollar IONSCAN 400B explosive detector, increasing familiarization and implementing procedures for this vital anti-terrorism tool.

Sergeant Corniel is the quintessential Non-commissioned Officer and continually sets the example for others to follow. He has made impacting differences at the 8th Fighter Wing and the 8th Communications Squadron, and exemplifies what a Non-commissioned Officer can do and will do to ensure the mission gets accomplished. Sergeant Corniel is deserving of the Pride of the Pack Award.
