Lt. Gen. Scott Pleus, Seventh Air Force commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Alvin Dyer, Seventh AF command chief, visited for an immersion tour with the Wolf Pack Class of 2021-2022 at Kunsan Air Base, Republic of Korea, Nov. 10, 2021.

However, this visit was set-apart due to the history shared between Seventh AF command team, particularly as it pertains to the Wolf Pack.

“It was literally ten years ago in this very [theater] I heard [Pleus] talk as my commander, and here we are full circle. Now, I’m working for him as his command chief,” Dyer said.

The first combined return of these leaders to the Wolf Pack since 2011, Dyer once served as the operations support superintendent for the 8th Civil Engineering Squadron, while Pleus carried the title of Wolf 51.

“There isn’t a better place on the planet to be than standing here at Kunsan,” Pleus said. “I’ve been to some pretty cool places on the planet but there’s something special about being here.”

Pleus and Dyer spent their return to Kunsan touring the base, receiving infrastructure updates, recognizing high performers and holding a commander’s call where they imparted higher headquarters perspectives, while reflecting on their time within the Wolf Pack.

“Kunsan has always had its own unique culture, but it’s the people I was here with who made this my best assignment ever,” Dyer reminisced.

Meeting with Airmen across base allowed them to once again see the efforts made every day by the Wolf Pack, and how the diligence of many keeps the base ready to respond when called upon.

“On a day-to-day basis, Seventh AF is tasked with one very simple mission: fight tonight,” Pleus said. ‘’What you guys do here, and I’m talking 8th FW, is a key piece to generating aircraft.”

Pleus acknowledged the assignment here has its difficulties, but stressed knowing we’re all in this together is what will keep the mission going as strong as ever.

“Remember, this is your family. There are so many times in my career where people have come up to me and said, ‘Hey I was at Kunsan while you were there,’ and it wasn’t because I was ‘Wolf,’ it’s because they remember you. YOU! Not based on your rank or your position - they remember you.” Pleus said. “One of the great things that makes Kunsan, Kunsan is the fact that the pack takes care of the pack.”
