More than a Chief: 8th FW gets new ‘Wolf Chief’

6/6/2012 - KUNSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- As a chief master sergeant and the 8th Fighter Wing's newest "Wolf Chief," Chief Master Sgt. Phillip Robinson is ready to roll up his sleeves and join the pack.
"I'm approachable! Engage me because I'm going to engage you," said Robinson.
"I'm a firm believer that attitude is everything and if you have the right attitude your tour in Korea will be one of accomplishment and pride," he added.
Armed with eight stripes and nearly 27 years of experience, Robinson hopes to challenge and empower the Airmen around him while learning what motivates them in their jobs.
"I'm interested in knowing about every member of the Wolf Pack team - I want to know about their families, their interests, and how we can make where we work and play better," said Robinson.
As command chief, Robinson looks forward to being a part of future Wolf Pack achievements, like the recent "Excellent" inspection rating received from the Pacific Air Forces Inspector General in April.
"It's incredible how we continue to maintain our combat edge rotating Airmen in and out of Kunsan after only 12 months," said the Chief.
This isn't his first assignment to the peninsula. As a young staff sergeant, he served as a dedicated crew chief on the A-10 Thunderbolt II at Osan Air Base in the early '90s.
"I thoroughly enjoyed that assignment and I know Kunsan will be the same," he said.
Even before this chief sewed on his first stripe, his love of the Air Force began as a sophomore in high school while in New York.
After speaking to an Air Force recruiter, Robinson simply said "I was hooked."
"Twenty six and a half years later nothing has changed ... I'm still in love with the Air Force," he added.
Admitting he knew at a young age that college was not for him, Robinson still pursued higher education once in the Air Force, earning his bachelor's from Hawaii Pacific University.
As a self-proclaimed "football fanatic," this native New Yorker may be seen sporting his favorite teams' colors around base.
While working out, reading and watching sports are at the top of his hobby list, his family remains the cornerstone in life.
"They are my world," he said of his three children and wife (and former heavies crew chief) Aimee, of 15 years.
"I have learned over the years the importance of having balance between your work and spending quality time with your loved ones," he added.
When it comes to his own job performance, Robinson claims he is his own work critic, and that working hard, and¬ remaining thankful and humble have made him a better Airman.
"Doing a full day's work for a full day's pay is very important to me," he said.
"I'm ready to get to work!"
